
Billy Kronenwetter, P.E., is a Senior Solution Developer with a strong background in mechanical engineering and energy innovation. He graduated from NC State University in 2012 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and has spent the past 14 years with Duke Energy. Billy began his career at the Shearon Harris Nuclear Plant, where he spent a decade serving as an Equipment Reliability, System, and Design Engineer.
For the last four years, Billy has worked within Duke Energy’s Customer Innovation Group, leading the development of cutting‑edge customer programs. His work includes managing the Grid Connected Water Heaters initiative in the Florida jurisdiction as part of the company’s Demand Response portfolio, as well as spearheading the Smart Lighting Services Pilot, which explored enhanced customer control features for streetlighting systems, such as dimming capabilities.
Billy brings deep technical expertise, program development experience, and a passion for energy innovation to his role as a judge for this year’s AI for Grid Resilience and Security Challenge.
