Amy Stoltzfus is a Softgoods Research Developer whose work focuses on the interfacial relationships between textiles, humans, and non-human encounters. Her career began in smart textiles as a Textile Technologist at the Center for Functional Fabrics (CFF) at Drexel University, where she explored manufacturing integration strategies and developed prototypes for academic research, government applications, and industry. In her next role at Meta Reality Labs (Facebook), Amy served as a Functional Garment Developer, where she developed immersive wearables for augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) wearables. Her background in art and fashion design fuels her passion for utilizing the functional aspects of aesthetics as tools to critically assess and enhance interactions between users and wearable devices. Addressing material performance limitations, she co-developed new sensing yarns, established workflows for textile systems, and implemented seamless knitting technology while leading the Softgoods Glove Program subsystem. Amy later joined Apple’s Materials Team as a researcher, where she built a materials inspiration library to introduce novel material technologies into early-stage product categories, including iPhone, iPad, laptop accessories, AR, health, and bio-derived materials for sustainable futures. She continues to leverage her expertise in art, design research, and manufacturing to advance materials as educational platforms for consumer electronics, AR/VR wearables, and industrial design applications.
