Associate Professor

North Carolina State University

Raymond Unocic is an Associate Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and Associate Director of the Analytical Instrumentation Facility at North Carolina State University. Prior to joining NC State, he served as an Alvin M. Weinberg Early Career Fellow, Senior R&D Staff Scientist, and Group Leader of the Materials MicroÅnalysis Group at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He earned his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from The Ohio State University and has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications, four book chapters, and holds five U.S. patents. His honors include the National Collegiate Inventors Award, the Microanalysis Society Birks Award, two R&D 100 Awards, and multiple ORNL–UT Battelle Research Team Awards. At NC State, his research group develops advanced microscopy-based characterization and in situ/operando techniques to probe atomic-scale structure, chemistry, and dynamics, enabling quantitative structure–property–function relationships for next-generation materials.
