Dr. Martí Checa Nualart is an R&D Staff Scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in the Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences, where he works in the Functional Atomic Force Microscopy group. His research focuses on advanced scanning probe microscopy, ferroelectric materials, biophysics and the integration of artificial intelligence and automation for autonomous experimentation. He has extensive expertise in multidimensional AFM techniques, including piezoresponse force microscopy, electromechanical and electrostatic characterization, and high-throughput, self-driving microscopy workflows. Dr. Checa received his PhD in Nanoscience from the University of Barcelona and has authored numerous high-impact publications including ACS Nano, Nature Nanotechnology, and Nature Communications among others. His work has been recognized with several awards, including the Microscopy Today Innovation Award and an Early Career LDRD from the U.S. Department of Energy.
