
Dr. Maria Fernanda Campa is a Staff Scientist (Contractor) at the National Nanotechnology Coordination Office, where she provides technical expertise at the intersection of nanotechnology, biotechnology, and environmental sustainability. She established and led the inaugural National Nanotechnology Challenge, Nano4EARTH, mobilizing the nanotechnology community to accelerate the development, scale-up, and adoption of technologies that protect the planet and its environment.
Dr. Campa also leads education, outreach, and workforce development initiatives in nanotechnology and emerging technologies, reaching thousands of students and educators each year. She is an interdisciplinary scientist passionate about advancing environmental and public health through scientific innovation and transdisciplinary collaboration.
She earned her Ph.D. in Energy Science and Engineering through a joint fellowship between the University of Tennessee and Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and her B.S. in Engineering Science (Nanomedicine) from the University of Virginia.
