Summary:

Transition metal oxides represent some of the most technologically relevant electrochemical materials in use today, from electrodes in lithium-ion batteries to electrochromic devices to emerging neuromorphic computing applications. In this presentation, I will discuss our group’s investigations of the structure-electrochemical property behavior of tungsten oxides, which form a diverse family of oxides capable of undergoing cation and proton-insertion coupled electron transfer. I will discuss how tuning the composition and structure of tungsten oxides can lead to ion-insertion behavior that leads to high power energy storage electrodes and dual-band electrochromic behavior for smart windows.
