Summary:

X-ray spectroscopy is used to detect and measure the elements within a sample due to absorption of soft X-rays being characteristic of each element. In this project, a sample holder was created to decrease noise in a table-top soft X-ray absorption spectrometer based on a laser-produced plasma. With the sample holder, we decreased noise by a factor of two and increased sensitivity so that absorption features on the order of 1 mOD can be detected.
