Summary:

The US Congress is uniquely responsible for writing the Appropriations Bills which allocate funding for all the federal agencies for the US Government. More importantly, Member of Congress (Members of the House and Senators) want to hear from companies in their respective districts and states and support their endeavors as they work with federal agencies. Furthermore, Members of the Committees on Armed Services and the Committees on Appropriations are particularly knowledgeable about the DOD innovation ecosystem and can be helpful to companies striving to work with the US government or already working with the US government – should issues arise. Given DOD’s goal of increasing the adoption of commercial technologies, the US Congress plays an integral role in DOD’s strategy to bring non-traditional defense contractors into the fold.
