Dr. Stefan Jaeger is a Staff Scientist at the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM), National Institutes of Health (NIH), with more than 25 years of experience in artificial intelligence and machine learning. He received his diploma from University of Kaiserslautern (German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence) in 1994, and his Ph.D. from University of Freiburg, Germany, in 1998, both in computer science. Before joining NIH, Dr. Jaeger worked at several international universities and institutes, in academia as well as industry. He has held, among others, research positions at Chinese Academy of Sciences, University of Maryland, Tokyo University of Agriculture & Technology, University of Karlsruhe, and Daimler. At NLM, he works on machine learning and image analysis for diagnosing infectious diseases. For his work on malaria and TB screening, he received several awards from HHS. His current research interests include machine learning, artificial intelligence, biomedical image analysis, and medical informatics.
