Summary:

On-chip biosensor to detect pathogens for safe food production was designed. Attempts were made to fabricate a rapid response on-chip biosensor with a multilayer thin-film architecture comprised of several layers of low-k dielectric material, noble metals, conducting oxides, and anti-microbial peptide (AMP). Deposition of these materials was performed on a conducting glass using sputter coating, evaporation induced self-assembly and immobilization techniques. As fabricated thin-film substrates were characterized by SEM, FTIR, fluorescence spectroscopy, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. As prepared biosensor was contacted with microbial colonies in a solution and the sensing response was investigated. Design of on-chip biosensor, fabrication, and biosensing ability will be presented.
