Summary:

This presentation discusses the need for Long Duration Energy Storage (LDSE) as an essential component in the quest for decarbonization by 2050. It is shown that there will be a continuing need for short term and medium term storage even as LDSE. Cost goals for different emerging technologies will be presented and different options such as electrochemical, thermal,, gravity, and chemical storage for LDES will be presented. The presentation will discuss the importance of safety in the development of new options and conclude with a plea for social equity as the Energy Transformation unfolds.
