Summary:

Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory has developed a method and system for in situ cross-linking of polymers, bitumen, and other materials to produce arbitrary functional or ornamental three-dimensional features using electron beams provided by mobile accelerators. Applied features can be functional (for example, to increase lateral stiffness, control directional friction, repair damage, or increase draining efficiency) or ornamental (to increase aesthetic appeal). Examples of large scale patterns can include honeycomb, chevron, groove, crosshatch, pyramid and column patterns, as well as tessellations of shapes.
