Israel Nery is an Assistant District Director/Lead Lender Relations Specialist at the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). Prior to becoming an Assistant District Director, he was a Presidential Management Fellow (PMF) at the SBA and detailed at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). Mr. Nery was also chosen as a Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) Law Graduate Fellow where he worked with the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF), and the House Committee on Financial Services under Ranking Member Maxine Waters (D-CA-43). Mr. Nery's professional work has focused on economic justice, particularly on consumer protection and access to capital for historically economically distressed areas. Mr. Nery is bilingual in both English and Spanish.
Mr. Nery received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB), where he was a member of the College Soccer team. Subsequently, he earned his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from Woodbury University. He earned his law degree from the University of Illinois in 2014 where he was awarded the Rickert Award for Excellence in Service, the most prestigious award bestowed by the College of Law to Students who have demonstrated an outstanding degree of commitment to work in the public interest.
Mr. Nery serves as a co-chair for the Legislative and Policy Committee. He also serves in the Board of Directors for his undergrad Alma Mater. He also served as a Reserve Police Officer for the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia from September 2016 through November 2017.
