Gediminas Mainelis

Rutgers University

Gediminas “Gedi” Mainelis leads the Bioaerosol Laboratory, where he develops new techniques for bioaerosol sampling, control, and generation, investigates techniques for monitoring aerosols, combines bioaerosol sampling tools with microbiological analysis, and studies the exposure and health effects of nanoparticles.

Dr. Mainelis studied with Dr. Arvydas Juozaitis at Vilnius University in the Department of Physics, and with Professor Werner Hofmann at Salzburg University in the Department of Biophysics, before completing his doctorate in Environmental Health in 2000 with Professor Klaus Wileke at the University of Cincinnati.

This work led to an innovative electrostatic approach to collection of bioaerosols that he is currently  developing and commercializing.
