GKN is actively developing several modalities of additive manufacturing and associated feedstock material for application to a variety of components. Laser wire deposition is particularly suited to the manufacture, maintenance, or repair of large components and structures. This presentation will summarize GKN Aerospace’s objectives related to the development and implementation of laser wire additive manufacturing for the aerospace industry. Takeaways will include results from development activities to date, along with application targets. Further, the presentation will identify specific technology gaps, in the context of a roadmap, for developing and transitioning this technology into production.
