Dissipative Intrinsic Localized Modes in Nano-ferroelectrics

Ferroelectrics are important materials for optical communication and other important areas of applications where discreteness and nonlinearity causes the formation of intrinsic localized modes that can transport energy with the help of the lattice. Based on the development of a Klein-Gordon equatiuon involving a discrete Hamiltonian (A.K. Bandyopadhyay, et al, Phys. Rev.-B, 81, 064104 (2010) Spectral collocation method that gives minimum errors in numerical computation was used to reveal the presence of “intrinsic localized modes” that are periodic in time and localised in space. These pulses show strong dependence on certain controlling parameters, such as non-dimensional damping and interaction constant. This should help the formulation for many device applications.
