Eric M. Vogel

Associate Professor

The University of Texas at Dallas

Eric M. Vogel was born in Charleroi, PA in 1972. He received the B.S. in Electrical Engineering with honors (1994) from Penn State University and the M.S. (1996) and the Ph.D. (1998) in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina State University. In 1998, he joined the National Institute of Standards and Technology as a researcher in the Semiconductor Electronics Division. In 2001, Dr. Vogel became leader of the division’s CMOS and Novel Devices Group which conducted a wide variety of experimental and modeling research in future electronic devices and materials. In 2003, Dr. Vogel acquired the additional responsibility of Director of the NIST Nanofab in which he directed the fit-up and start-up of a new cleanroom with new fabrication equipment. Dr. Vogel was awarded the Department of Commerce Silver Medal for these efforts. In September of 2006, he joined the faculty of the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Texas at Dallas as an Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering. Dr. Vogel’s research interests relate to devices and materials for future electronics including advanced MOS devices and materials, nanoelectronic devices, and organic electronics. He has published over 90 journal publications and proceedings, written 4 book chapters and given over 50 invited talks and tutorials. An invited review paper on technology and metrology for future electronic devices and materials was published in Nature Nanotechnology in January 2007. He has been involved in numerous conferences and committees including the International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors, general chair of the 2005 IEEE Semiconductor Interface Specialists Conference, high-k (2008) and dielectric (2001) program chair of the IEEE International Reliability Physics Symposium, and co-organizer of the 2000 MRS Workshop on High-k Gate Dielectrics. He is a senior member of IEEE, and a member of APS and MRS.
