Ross Bringans

Vice President

Palo Alto Research Center (PARC)

Dr. Ross Bringans is a Vice President at the Palo Alto Research Center Inc. and directs PARC's EMDL research organization, which focuses on opto-electronics, micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS), large-area electronics for displays and other applications, and the use of novel methods such as printing to enable very low-cost electronics. The infrastructure within the organization includes both silicon and optoelectronic fabrication lines for prototype devices.

Elected a Fellow of the American Physical Society in 1993, Ross has authored or co-authored 140 articles published in scientific and technical journals; presented over 20 invited talks at international scientific conferences on topics ranging from the atomic structure of semiconductors to the application of lasers in printing; and has 25 issued patents. He joined PARC in 1984 and initially worked on the structure of semiconductor surfaces and the interfaces formed when devices are fabricated. Prior to coming to PARC he carried out research at the Max-Planck-Institute for Semiconductor Research in Stuttgart, Germany (where he was a Humboldt Fellow) and at Stanford University.

Bringans completed B.S., B.S.(Hons), and M.S. degrees in Physics from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, and a Ph.D. in Physics at Cambridge University for work on the optical properties of semiconductor materials.

Speaking in the special symposium on Micro & Nano Fluidics.
