Reinhold Dauskardt

Professor and Associate Chair, Department of Materials Science and Engineering

Stanford University

Reinhold Dauskardt is Professor and Associate Chair of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Stanford University. He is also a Professor in the Dept. of Mechanical Eng. and the Biodesign Institute at Stanford. His research interests lie in the study of the relationship between chemistry and molecular structure of thin films and bulk materials and their adhesive and cohesive properties, thermomechanical behavior, and fracture and fatigue properties. Materials include thin-film and layered structures for nanoscience and energy technologies, metal laminates and bulk metallic glasses, biomaterials, and soft tissues. Dauskardt’s research includes interaction with a wide range researchers in academia, industry, and clinical practice. He has served as editor for a number of journals and books, organized international conferences and symposia, and published over 200 articles in the scientific literature. He has won numerous awards including U.S. Department of Energy Outstanding Scientific Accomplishment Award (1989), Alexander von Humboldt Research Award (2002), ASM International Silver Medal (2003), IBM Faculty Award (2006), elected Fellow of the American Ceramics Society (2008), VLSI/ULSI Multilevel Interconnection (VMIC) International Conference Award (2008), and the American Vacuum Society Thin Film User Group Special Award for contributions to the Northern California Chapter AVS (2008).
