Louis Bouchard

Professor, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry

Dr. Louis Bouchard holds a bachelor's degree in physics from McGill University, a master's in biophysics from the University of Toronto and a Ph.D. in chemistry from Princeton University. He did postdoctoral work at the University of California, Berkeley developing novel instrumentation and methodologies for magnetic resonance spectroscopy and imaging. He joined the faculty in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at UCLA in the summer of 2008, and is a member of the California NanoSystems Institute and the UCLA Biomedical Engineering Interdepartmental Program. Research in his laboratory focuses on the development of target-specific ferromagnetic nanoparticle technology for multi-modality molecular imaging and diagnostics. Other areas of research include fluid mechanics, the development of novel chemical reaction engineering microtechnology, metabolic imaging, optical techniques for nanoscale sensing of magnetic fields and the application of hyperpolarization methods for sensitivity-enhanced MRI.
