Nicholas Tiliakos

Senior R&D Engineer

ATK GASL-NY Operations

Dr. Tiliakos received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University and his M.S. and Ph.D in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1993 and 1997, respectively, where his research focused on electric/plasma space propulsion systems. He joined GASL in 1997 and was a test engineer for 3 years in the Test and Evaluation Laboratory, testing hypersonic engines, bi-propellant liquid rocket engines and catalytic combustors. Dr. Tiliakos is currently a senior R&D engineer at ATK GASL in the Advanced Concepts Group with expertise in advanced propulsion systems, thermal fluids, heat transfer, thermodynamics and MEMS. Over the last 8 years, Dr. Tiliakos has conducted R&D efforts for MEMS based harsh environment sensors, that includes a MEMS shear stress sensor for supersonic/hypersonic aeropropulsion systems, an ablative recession rate sensor for NASA-Ames, and various MEMS devices for thermal management applications. Dr. Tiliakos is also a senior member of A.I.A.A and A.S.M.E. He has also served as an adjunct professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Columbia University, NYC from 2001-2007, having taught Advanced Thermodynamics and Advanced Heat Transfer.
