Dan earned a B.S. in Accounting from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1989. After graduating he began working as an Auditor for the National Science Foundation’s Office of Inspector General. Here he spent six years auditing grants and contracts at various types of organizations, including Small Businesses. Dan came to NIH in 1997 and worked for three years as a Grant Specialist, where his responsibilities included awarding SBIR/STTR grants. In 2000, he joined DFAS as an Auditor where he performed indirect cost rate negotiations, audit resolution, financial capability and accounting system reviews, primarily with SBIR/STTR grantees. From 2007 through 2016 Dan served as the Deputy Director of DFAS. Currently Dan is the manager of Branch B where he and his staff are responsible for negotiating indirect cost rates with SBIR/STTR companies that receive awards from NIH.
