Dr. Edward Metz is a developmental psychologist and the Program Manager of the SBIR program at the U.S. Department of Education (ED). Ed manages a portfolio of education technology SBIR projects at the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) at ED. He specializes in providing technical assistance to industry leaders in the development of education technology interventions including games, research to test the implementation of technology in schools, and on business models for the private sector commercialization of emerging forms of technology. In 2014-2015, an estimated 2M students in 20K schools in 50 states used products which graduated from his program. Prior to working at ED, Ed specialized in the field of school-based service learning, where he performed and published research on the impact of service programs on high school students. Ed is a former American Association for the Advancement of Science / Society for Research in Child Development (AAAS/SRCD) Executive Branch Fellow.
