Summary:

Nowadays, the cost of bioethanol production from renewable resources is still too high. The significant barrier to improve economy and efficiency of the production process was the cost of enzyme for converting cellulosic biomass into fermenting sugar. Immobilized Trichoderma reesei as cellulase on mesoporous CeO2-ZrO2 support was presented as an alternatively effective method for improving hydrolysis process in the bioethanol production. Mesoporous CeO2-ZrO2 support with high coordination number, good mechanical property, and good chemical resistance was prepared by nanocasting process. The objective of this study was to evaluate the optimal conditions to immobilize T. reesei on the synthesized mesoporous CeO2-ZrO2 support by varying immobilization temperature, immobilization time, pH, and amount of enzyme. It was found that the maximum absorption of T. reesei on mesoporous CeO2-ZrO2 support was 88.58% at pH=5 for 30 min using 0.25 ml of enzyme solution and 0.10 g of CeO2-ZrO2 support. The changes in the structure and the surface area of the immobilized T.reesei on mesoporous CeO2-ZrO2 support were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and N2 adsorption-desorption, respectively.
