Value Proposition: This technology is unique mainly because it allows to manufacture materials at low-cost. One doesn’t need to synthesizing block copolymer or equivalent. In fact, performance of the materials is superior to conventional block copolymers. The technology has strong potential for industrial adoption that will deliver economic benefit and strengthen US competitive edge in the global marketplace. Nearly all fiber-reinforced composites are difficult to extrude; filament attrition is unavoidable during melt processing at
high shear. Thus composite manufacturing processes require specific fabrication and associated tooling. Our approach involving nanocomposites will reduce anisotropy due to fiber alignment and make fabrication methods universal. Such a material would compete with conventional thermoplastics and offer superior performance.
