Amanda Smith, CPA is a Senior Auditor with the Division of Financial Advisory Services (DFAS) at NIH. She also serves as the Acting Special Reviews Branch Chief for DFAS where she supervises the resolution of audit findings, financial capability reviews, cost analysis, and the negotiation of indirect cost rates for grants excluding SBIR/STTR awards. She has been an auditor at DFAS for ten years. Prior to joining DFAS, Amanda was an auditor at the Department of Labor for four years. There she was the fiduciary of the special fund for the Division of Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation. Additionally, she performed financial capability reviews of large publicly-traded insurance carriers. Amanda also served as the Contracting Officer Representative (COR) and performed contract administration functions. Prior to government service, Amanda was also an auditor for a regional CPA firm, Saltmarsh, Cleaveland and Gund, for two years. At the CPA firm, she performed audits of organizations from various industries and conducted single audits for local governments. She also provided accounting services to small businesses in addition to the preparation of partnership and corporate tax returns. To stay abreast of any changes in the accounting and auditing profession, Amanda obtains continuing professional education training. She holds a Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Accounting from Troy State University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Louisiana. Amanda is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
