Dr. “LK” Kubendran is the Portfolio Executive for the Commercial Partners Portfolio within the Space Technology Mission Directorate (STMD) at NASA Headquarters in Washington DC. He provides focused strategic guidance for commercial engagement to three programs (Flight Opportunities, Centennial Challenges, and Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR)/ Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) and one activity (Regional Economic Development). Previously, LK was the Program Executive for the Flight Opportunities Program (2010-2015). LK joined NASA in 2006 and has held several leadership roles at the NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center (AFRC): Deputy Director for Safety & Mission Assurance, Director (acting) for Research and Engineering, and Deputy Associate Center Director (acting) for Operations. LK started his career as a research scientist at Analytical Services & Materials, Inc. (AS&M) in 1986, rose up to the rank of Senior Vice President in 1995, and served as the program manager for the AFRC engineering and technical services contract until 2006. LK received a PhD in Aerospace Engineering from Georgia Tech and an Executive MBA from UCLA. He is an Associate Fellow of AIAA.
