Russ has over 30 years experience with small businesses as a: i) CEO, ii) coach/mentor to CEOs/senior management, iii) Chief Financial Officer, iv) business designer and v) member of various small business Boards of Directors. He is a business theorist, a lifelong student of the science of business, and has extensive experience with Federal funded research and development (R&D) programs and has been an invited speaker and presenter at numerous regional and national conferences of Federal R&D programs. He speaks of “Designing Businesses to be Successful” and “Effective Utilization of Government Funded R&D” as well as other conference specialized topics. Russ is a nationally recognized expert on the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program and is a continuously invited speaker at national and regional SBIR conferences.
Russ’ prior experience includes six years as CFO and financial V-P for CTA, Inc. (a systems engineering company that grew from 30 employees to over 700 during his tenure), six years as corporate controller for Hathaway Instruments, Inc. (a publicly held electronic manufacturing company), and four years as an auditor for Arthur Andersen & Co. He became a licensed CPA (now expired) in 1973 in the state of Colorado, holds a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from University of Colorado, and holds both a B.S. and an M.S. in Business Administration from University of Northern Colorado.
