Betty Royster is the Communications Specialist for the National Institutes of Health’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs. NIH’s SBIR and STTR programs provide early-stage funding to US small businesses that are creating innovative technologies to improve health.As the Communications Specialist, Betty helps develop, implement and evaluate the team’s outreach strategy which targets populations and geographic locations that historically have lower application rates, including women-owned small businesses and small-disadvantaged businesses. Through this role, Betty has become interested in the different stages of commercialization and the most effective methods for moving technology from the lab to the market. Betty also has experience working on communications campaigns for other Federal government agencies, including CDC, EPA and HUD. Betty graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with Honors in Public Policy.
