Los Alamos National LaboratoryJohn was born in Kilmarnock, Scotland in 1963. He received his B.Sc. (Hons) degree in Chemistry from the University of Glasgow in 1985 and his Ph.D. in Chemistry in 1990 from the University of Notre Dame. John held postdoctoral positions at the University of Maryland (College Park) and at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). After spending a brief period in the private sector, he returned to Los Alamos as a Technical Staff Member in 1999. His current research efforts focus on chemistry for energy applications with an emphasis on sustainable and renewable approaches. His work has been recognized by several awards including an exceptional mentor award, a LANL Fellows Prize and appointment to the ranks of Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and Laboratory Fellow at LANL.
