WireCAP: a Novel Packet Capture Engine for Commodity NICs in High-speed Networks

WireCAP is a novel packet capture engine for commodity network interface cards (NICs) in high-speed networks. This new paradigm essentially exploits the computing parallelism of multicore systems and the inherent data parallelism of network traffic to accelerate packet capturing and processing.

Value Proposition: Full packet capture is the most detailed form of network information and can provide historical information about attacks and malicious activity for as long as there is enough storage for the data. Few commercial offerings are available and are expensive. WireCAP uses commodity NICs, making it cheaper than competing solutions.
