Irradiated Road Surface System using Truck-Mounted Electron Beam Technology

Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, IL, United States

TECHNOLOGY SUMMARY

Fermilab has developed a concept for truck-mounted electron accelerators that can be used for in situ treatment of freshly laid asphalt, turning it into a tougher, longer-lasting material. This could significantly extend the life of our roads and allow high quality pot-hole repair even on the coldest winter days.

Primary Application Area: Defense & Transportation

Technology Development Status: Concept

Technology Readiness Level: TRL 2

FIGURES OF MERIT

Value Proposition: Mobile accelerator technology enables in situ treatment of road surfaces, saving money for U.S. taxpayers.
