TECHNOLOGY SUMMARY

NASA Langley researchers have developed and patented a technology for determining the position, in three dimensions, of any point on a multi-core optical fiber bundle. The technology, which integrates Fiber-Bragg-Grating sensors, allows for near-real-time monitoring of deflection, end position, and location—even in fibers that may be experiencing external twisting.
