TECHNOLOGY SUMMARY

This program will establish a germplasm collection of Agave at Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México (UAEM). UAEM has developed a somatic embryogenesis platform for wild isolates of Agave angustifolia Haw collected in deserts around Zumpahuacan, Mexico. UNT researchers are developing transformation system and are conducting next generation sequencing.

Value Proposition: We are establishing a germplasm collection of Agave species at UAEM in Mexico and are generating the necessary tissue culture and molecular biology tools to develop Agave into a high biomass crop for developing lignocellulosic industries.
