Carbon Nanotube Membrane for Sea, Brackish and Frack Water Desalination

New Jersey Innovation Institute, NJ, United States

TECHNOLOGY SUMMARY

NJIT's carbon nanotube enhanced membrane process can be operated as a “low-cost” “low-energy” technology especially using low grade heat sources, such as waste heat or solar energy. It can handle higher salt concentrations than reverse osmosis and requires less pre-treatment.

Primary Application Area: Environmental, Water & Waste

Technology Development Status: Prototype

Technology Readiness Level: TRL 4

FIGURES OF MERIT

Value Proposition: We have developed the highest performance membrane in the market for membrane distillation. We have also demonstrated the ability to purify high salt containing produced water from oil and gas drilling.
