A new and cost-effective process for direct production of lactide as a monomer of polylactic acid(PLA)

A monomer of polylactic acid (PLA), lactide, has been commercially produced by two-step prepolymer process, resulting in significant enantiopurity loss and high production cost. KRICT offers a new single-step catalytic process, overcoming the disadvantages of the conventional 2-step process and thus enabling production cost be reduced significantly.

Value Proposition: The present technology will offer sets of new intellectual properties, whose claims can cover various facets of the single step lactide production technology, including catalysts, catalytic reaction processes, and purifications. Considering the importance of lactide production costs, these intellectual properties will provide critical competitive edge over companies adopting conventional processes.
