TECHNOLOGY SUMMARY

Squaliform is the commercial designation for SynShark’s product ready squalene hydrocarbon, which is used as a nutraceutical, pharmaceutical, or refined into biofuel. In biofuel, squalene has huge potential as a high-octane fuel. Today Squaliform holds the record yield of squalene, and can be sourced from tobacco.

Value Proposition: SynShark’s synthetic squalene product, Squaliform, will provide a superior alternative hydrocarbon while taking pressure off a vulnerable ocean catch. Squaliform is derived through a protected, novel approach to photosynthesis efficiency, carbon flux optimization and storage of the final product in tobacco and other plants, which is setting scientific records.

GOVT/EXTERNAL FUNDING SOURCES

Government Funding/Support to Date: To date, SynShark’s technology was the result of DE-AR0000203 and Texas state Biofuel Initiatives. Of particular focus is DE-AR0000203, which is an ARPA-E PETRO grant to the Yuan labs at Texas A&M University with subcontract to University of Pennsylvania, Virginia Tech, University of Illinois, and University of Kentucky. This grant was used to develop Squaliform and a variety of high performance synthetic biology processes, which are exclusively licensed to SynShark. Further government and ARPA-E funding at the Yuan labs will benefit to SynShark.
