Edward Metz is the Program Manager for the U.S. Department of Education’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program, which funds the R&D of commercially viable education technology products to improve student learning and to support teacher practice. In recent years, the program has supported the development of several award-winning technologies which are now in wide-spread use in U.S. schools. In his role, Ed leads the annual program solicitation process and provides technical assistance to all awardees and to potential program applicants.
A former American Association for the Advancement of Science and Society for Research in Child Development (AAAS/SRCD) Fellow, Ed earned his Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology at Catholic University in Washington, DC, in 2003. His research focused on the impact of school-based community service programs on students’ civic engagement. Ed graduated Georgetown University in 1995, and was a member of the Jesuit Volunteer Corps NW in 1995-1996 where he served in Yakima, Washington.
