TECHNOLOGY SUMMARY

Aluma45 MgRP is a chromium-free magnesium-rich primer for use on aluminum-alloys and composites in ship and automotive manufacturing. This coating can be used directly on bare metal, eliminating phosphate, electroplating and chromium-based pre-treatments, which reduces weight, manufacturing time and costs and eliminates toxic coating procedures and disposal.

Value Proposition: Carcinogenic Chromium VI is the outdated industry standard for protecting aluminum alloys. The Navy has been testing uncoated aluminum vessels with failing results. Aluma45 outperforms CrVI coatings and reduces coating costs, time, weight and health and environmental hazards, making it time to ban CrVI and paint ships with Aluma45.

Initial Phase I research for this chromium-free mg-rich technology was funded at North Dakota State University by monies from the Air Force Office of Scientific Research in 1999 (Grant F49620-96-1-0284).
