Analytics for Economical Deployment of Energy Storage

This presentation provides an overview of the spectrum of analytic tools to identify high-value locations and control strategies aimed at maximizing the value of energy storage system in the US. Discussed will be the results of a national assessment of energy storage for two selected grid services. The presentation will also discuss some case studies that identify optimal locations for the placement of energy storage in a distribution system. The case study applied novel analytics that are based on optimal control strategies that maximize the simultaneous value of an energy storage system to provide multiple values. The case studies will highlight the complex engineering analysis necessary to a) identify the optimal location and b) an optimal control strategy for implementation into a Distribution Automation System for real-time control.
