Covalent Immobilization of Various Catalysts on α-Zirconium Phosphate Nanosheets for Heterogeneous Catalysis Applications

Heterogeneous catalysts play an important role in many industrial reactions because of their advantages in product separation and catalyst recycling. In this work, we investigated the immobilization of three popular groups of catalysts, ionic liquids, N-Heterocyclic carbene-palladium (NHC-Pd) complexes, and superacids onto the surface of α-zirconium phosphate (ZrP) nanosheets. Each active component connected with silane groups were attached onto ZrP nanosheets to form immobilized heterogeneous catalysts via the reaction between the silane groups and hydroxyl groups on ZrP. The obtained heterogeneous catalysts were systematically characterized and the results supported that these active components were covalently grafted onto ZrP nanosheets. The immobilized catalysts on individual nanosheets were readily accessible and exhibited excellent performance in corresponding organic reactions.
