Keywords: nanoscale materials, characterization, manufacturing

Summary:

Nano must buy its way into applications in demanding industries such as aerospace in the sense that cost, quality and reliability must all be improved in order to make it worth the investment to put a new material into service. After the materials innovation stage is done, materials and systems must be designed, scaled up, manufactured, tested, and proven. This talk will explore the enabling measurements for this manufacturing phase and the unique challenges that can determine the fate of even the most promising new material.
