Synthesis of Spinel LiMn2O4 Nanoparticles and Nanorods for Li-ion Battery

Spinel LiMn2O4 nanoparticles were prepared by nitric acid assisted combustion process and LiMn2O4 nanorods were synthesized through two steps process from a novel microwave assisted hydrothermally synthesized β-MnO2 nanorods followed by solid state reaction of β-MnO2 nanorods with LiOH. The XRD patterns show the formation of cubic phase of LiMn2O4 samples with spinel structure. FTIR results confirm the structural co-ordination of both particles and nanorods. SEM images show the formation of well defined nanoparticles and nanorods morphology of LiMn2O4 obtained from two different methods. Battery testing shows that spinel LiMn2O4 nanorods have delivered a stable discharge capacity of 96 mAh/g after 50 cycles at 0.1 C rate.
