Uniform Melt State Process For The Production Of Nanostructured Materials

Existing processes for the production of nanostructured composite materials suffer from non-homogeneity of feedstock and non uniformity of thermal processing path. Amastan’s UniMelt™ process solves both problems through the use of uniform temperature profile microwave plasma and uniform solution precursor droplets, mixed at the molecular level. This leads to precise control of particle size, size distribution, morphology, and phase microstructure. UniMelt™ uses axial injection of molecularly mixed, uniform diameter droplet precursor droplets into an axi-symmetric hot zone with laminar flows and uniform plasma temperature profile to impose a uniform thermal path for processed droplets. Pyrolysis of droplet is achieved with high heating and quenching rates to obtain amorphous or nanocrystalline particle products. UniMelt™ has been used to synthesize successfully several nanocomposite ceramic oxides that can be consolidated into monoliths of interest to Infra-red and laser applications.
