Quantum dot (QD) components entered the mainstream of the display market in 2013, finding their way into a wide range of product offerings from tablets to TVs. While consumer electronics makers will adopt the product mainly for the color performance enhancements enabled by the QD materials, environmental impact factors are of growing importance to the industry. Here we will discuss the environmental, health and safety benefits of QD products generally, and quantify the net reductions in power consumption, heavy metal emissions, and carbon emissions and the corresponding socio-economic benefit enabled by QD displays.
