In this presentation, the current development status of Akermin’s advanced post-combustion CO2 capture will be discussed. The novel bio-catalysis based approach address the major challenges of current solvent-based CO2 capture technologies - the high capital and operating costs, corrosivity, solvent volatility, and the environmental impact of compounds produced by solvent degradation. The paper will illustrate the potential of the biocatalysis-based approach and present key technical results generated during Akermin’s proof-of-concept demonstration in a slip-stream bench-scale field pilot, at the National Carbon Capture Center (NCCC) supported by the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Energy Technology Laboratory (DOE/NETL).
