Joseph H. Guth, J.D., Ph.D. has recently joined U.C. Berkeley\'s Center for Green Chemistry and is also the Legal Director of the Science and Environmental Health Network, where he has been since 2006. Joe joined the Science & Environmental Health Network as Legal Director in March, 2006. He is a member of the New York State Bar, has a law degree from New York University, a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Madison, Wisconsin, and an undergraduate degree in biochemistry from the University of California, Berkeley. Joe\'s principal legal work at SEHN is to advocate for the transformation of the law so that it will promote preservation of the earth rather than accept environmental destruction as a byproduct of economic growth. Key areas that Joe\'s work draws from include precautionary principle theory, the public trust doctrine, law of the commons, ecological economics, environmental justice and the fundamental structure of cost-benefit analysis. As one particular field for this work, Joe works to achieve comprehensive reform of chemicals policy in California and in the United States.
