Making the Good Better: Enhancing Solution Phase Antibody/Antigen Binding With Homogeneous Magnetic Fields

Lee Josephson

Lee Josephson

Associate Professor, Harvard Medical School; Director of New Probe Chemistry, CTNMMI

Massachusetts General Hospital

Dr. Lee Josephson received his B.S. in chemistry from the University of Wisconsin (Madison) and Ph.D. in biochemistry from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Following a postdoctoral fellowship in the laboratory of Guido Guidotti (Molecular and Cellular Biology, Harvard), he was a co-founder of AMAG Pharmaceuticals (formerly Advanced Magnetics), and served as its Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer. In 1998 he joined Dr. Ralph Weissleder at the Center for Molecular Imaging Research at the Massachusetts General Hospital, and in 2008 he joined the Center for Translational Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging under the Department of Radiology (MGH). He is also on the faculty of the Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging. His research interests include the design of magnetic, fluorescent and radioactive probes for imaging cell stress, apoptosis, and cell death in models of ischemia and chemotherapy induced cell death. He has been a leader in the design and use of magnetic nanoparticles as MRI contrast agents, and in the use of magnetic particles for in vitro and in vivo sensor applications. He is a cofounder of T2 Biosystems, a company making NMR based diagnostics for in vitro applications.
