Abstract:

We present the development and application of our novel sensors for in vivo biological detection of ions and small molecules. These sensors are created from tubular scaffolds in which we can embed a chemical sensing environment. The sensors fluorescently respond to the target and report the concentration of the target through the skin when addressed by an optical reader. The physical properties of these sensors are ideal to allow customization towards sensing ions such as sodium and potassium or molecules such as glucose. Additionally, the sensors have limited diffusion properties, a high surface area to volume ratio, and are biocompatible.
