Nanoporous Materials through Anodizing of Iron in F-containing Organic Electrolytes

Abstract:

In this brief review, our recent progress in fabrication, characterization and application of thick nanoporous iron anodic films in ethylene glycol and a novel dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) electrolyte containing some fluorides will be presented and discussed. We have found that DMSO – H2SiF6 process allow fabrication of extremely thick bi-layered films attaining 50 μm and more. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction, Raman, Mössbauer and Furje-transformed IR spectroscopy, and thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA) have been applied here to detect compositional and structural differences of film layers formed at the metal/film interface and at the surface side before and following calcination to hematite
